My Grandma was an amazing cook! Holidays were always a treat! She wasn’t a fancy cook, but she cooked with love. Every meal was filled down home goodness!
One of her signature items was Lime Pickles. These pickles were special! They had a sweet flavor but their most unique characteristic was their vibrant, bright green color. She would can them each summer. Then when we would gather for holidays or special occasions, she would open one of the prized pickle jars and share it with everyone she loved.
Pickles are unique. You take a regular cucumber. You soak it in a brine or marinade. You add some heat. The cucumbers take on the flavor of the vinegar, sugar, salt and spices of the brine. And the cucumbers are transformed into a pickle.
As I was praying today I realized we are being pickled in God’s presence. For over 450 days, we have been soaking in the Lord. Each day as we choose to seek His face, we are being transformed to be more and more like Him. Our simple life as a cucumber is OVER! We are being marinated in His love, in His character, in His life. We cannot stay the same.
Sometimes the heat is turned up a bit. It speeds up the process of transformation. We can not stay the same. Suddenly we find we must change. There is no going back to the way we used to be. We are no longer Cucumber Christians. We’ve been pickled!
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4
You become what you behold. We are being transformed into the image of Christ as we soak in His presence. Lord, You are all we want. Make us like You!
Take a minute and soak inthe marinade of His love with this song. Let’s be pickled in His presence today.
‘All I want is just to know Your heart and would You keep me here until we’re one….”
