Never knew how prophetic that name would be?!?!?! Adventures in HOPE! This life is a GRAND adventure indeed.
God has a way of surprising us. The path is never exactly what we anticipated. There are twists and turns we never would have imagined.
I’ve been quoting Proverbs 16:9 often lately. “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (NKJV)
I love how the Passion Translation puts it. “Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.”
God will speak a word. We get all excited. We just KNOW how it is going to work out. We have planned the most direct route to our destination. We have estimated our time of arrival and prepared for our journey. We launch out with great faith, ready to save the day!
We have charted our course and we take the first few steps. It doesn’t take long before our road map becomes useless. Suddenly it seems like we are going backwards, not forward. Our sense of direction is gone. A fog seems to roll in. We can’t even see our hand in front of our face.
We wonder what has happened. How could we be so off course? We wonder if we will ever get to the destination. We even question if we are headed in the right direction.
We question it all. Is it worth the time? Is it worth the energy? Did I really hear from God? Will this ever happen or is this just a crazy fantasy? Should I give up?
But oh if we will just press into God. He takes over and leads us step by step. We learn we are not alone on our journey. He is with us. We learn to hear His voice. We begin to know His gentle whispers and nudges.
Our crazy faith becomes sight – one step at a time. He begins to lead us one step at a time. Just putting one foot in front of the other. We may not see 10 feet in front of us, but we know Who is beside us directing each step.
Soon a funny thing happens. He brings us to a clearing in the path. From this place we can look back over the journey and see how far we have come. And we can look ahead and get another glimpse of where we are going. Suddenly we are excited again about the pathway and filled with HOPE to continue on.
Don’t give up my friends on the journey God has for you. Has He given you a dream to fulfill? Does the road seem really long and not the path you anticipated? Find Him on it. Let Him give you the next step. And then the next step. And then the next step.
It is a grand adventure. It is a journey, hand in hand with the King of the universe. He can be trusted. You are not alone. Keep pressing in. Keep pressing on. One step at a time.
